When life seems hard and unpredictable, there is always one thing that gets me through and that is knowing that there will be a hearty warming bowl of oats ready to fuel my day and whatever challenges it will throw at me! Like the foundations of a house, each flavour oats requires a basic reliable recipe.
There is a simply ratio to follow:
There are SO many ways to vary this recipe and it still be 'basic oats': almond milk, coconut milk, half half water-milk, semi-skimmed, pinch of salt, jumbo oats, ground oatmeal... the list is endless but for my famalam and I, it ALWAYS had to be WHOLE milk and rolled oats.
My family ethos of 'full fat milk ONLY' stood stronger than ever during recovery, and for good reason! Or bodies needed the fat to rebuild and why would you reduce the CREAMINESS of your porridge anyway?

There is a simply ratio to follow:
- 1 cup oats : 2 cups milk. Simple.
- It usually works out at about half a cup of oats per person.
- Combine the milk and the oats in a saucepan on the hob, high heat until it begins to bubble happily just before boiling point
- Simmer on low for about 8 minutes or until it is that perfect consistency that will make your mouth happy!
