This simple bowl was my FIRST 'official' recovery porridge flavour when the meal plan was first introduced. "Why don't you make them porridge for breakfast" my mum suggested, "we can use up the leftover raspberry compote you made for my birthday breakfast yesterday". And so the 'FAMILY PORRIDGE SESH' was born! Having been used to a measly fruit salad to 'fuel' my day, this SINGLE scoop of oats an overwhelming task set in front of me. Something I described as making me feel 'shaky' as irrational yet consuming anxiety took over, but boy at this point i didn't even apprehend the true MEANING of recovery (even as i write this i'm still not 100% sure) and i was in for a long and rocky journey!
Being the C-RAZY family we are, the recipes are never precisely measured (something which my disorder HATED, but I've actually grown to really appreciate) and so a little bit of variation and good old fashioned intuition might be appropriate.. but chill! You've got a brain right? and eyes yes? and a TONGUE, probably, so I'm sure you can tweak around with quantities to get them just how you need! (this applies to majority of recipes and i cannot be held responsible for any kitchen disasters that may occur as a result ;)
Raspberry compote:
Here are a few I did as we had this flavour often, it was quick and easy and we had a LOT of compote to use up!
Raspberry compote:
- Basic porridge -as much as your heart desires
- caster sugar -1 dessert spoon per portion of porridge (but depends on how much of a sweet tooth you have)
- Fresh raspberries - one punnet (to make enough for 3 people....ish)
- icing sugar- 2tsp...ish (or to taste)
- stick blender/foodprocessor (general food smusher)
- Make basic porridge, sprinkling in the caster sugar as it begins to cook
- While that is beautifully combining into a creamy pan of porridgy goodness, grab your stick blender/food processor and completely wizz those raspberries like there's no tomorrow! Make them into the most liquidy state possible!
- Add in the icing sugar and WIZZZZ some more until combined.
- Now BE CRAZY and taste a little to see if it's sweetness is to your liking.....okay great you're almost ready for the best part....
- Ladle your beautifully cooked oats into your FAVOURITE bowl (or plate, or jar whatever takes your fancy)
- Now CROWN THOSE OATS with your beautifully pink sweet HOMEMADE compote in whatever formation and quantity you wish!
